Now that October is nearly here the days are starting to get shorter and shorter. However, that doesn’t mean you have to sit at home all day. There’s plenty still going on in Chelmsford throughout the Autumn and Winter months, all you have to do is keep checking back with us for more news.
Chelmsford has something for everyone so it’s no surprise people love to visit. October has a variety of events taking place that you are bound to love!

Do you have a passion for chillies? Do you try to incorporate them into your meals frequently? If the answer is yes to both then this is something you have to see. With over 100 different types of chillies on display, you won’t be able to resist the vibrant colors. There will also be a chance to taste some of the peppers – if you dare! 8th October – Catwalk at The Course
Chelmsford City Racecourse holds many races in the Autumn and Winter due to being an all-weather course, but they also put on events that you wouldn’t expect. This October they are hosting the very first Catwalk at the Course Fashion Event to celebrate the very best of Essex’s fashion empire. Fashion designs, brands, creative talent and local independent fashion and beauty businesses will all be included in the evening. It’s bound to be a great night with BA Honors students from South Essex College showcasing their ‘Equestrian themed’ collection, a perfect fit for Chelmsford Racecourse! 22nd – 30th October – Half-term Animals of the Night at Hyde hall
As part of the Wild About Gardens Week, Hyde Hall has teamed up with The Wildlife Trusts to help people learn more about bats. They will teach you how we can support a species that is being threatened due to habitat loss. It’s the perfect event to take the kids to this half term with lots of fun activities such as:
- An owl display where you can say hello to these magnificent birds and see them up close.
- Weekday art & craft workshops in which you can create some creepy crafts to get in the spirit of Halloween.
- Face painting for the kids to become anything they want; a scary skeleton, a magical witch or a delightful pumpkin!
- And speaking of pumpkins there is even a day where you can carve your own, fun for all the family!
