2nd December – 2nd January: Jack and The Beanstalk
If we asked you to name a traditional pantomime that would bring all the family together, what would you say? The giant of family pantomime is coming to Chelmsford’s Civic Theatre for the whole month of December. We all know the story of Jack and his handful of magic beans, but seeing it in real life will be a magical experience for people of all ages. 2nd – 4th December: Magic of Christmas at RHS Garden Hyde Hall
Christmas wouldn’t be complete without a trip to see Santa and his cheeky elves! Pop in to RHS Garden Hyde Hall over the first weekend in December with the kids to enjoy a special story time session before meeting the man himself. Don’t let the kids forget their letters for Santa, he will love knowing what to get them on the special day. 3rd – 4th December: Christmas Wine Festival & Winter Wonderland at New Hall Vineyards
A little something for the grown-ups to indulge in during the festive season and an event that wine lovers are sure to enjoy. A 20-minute drive from Chelmsford city centre, you will find an amazing opportunity to buy wine at a discounted price. You can also taste new ones you’ve never had before. Not only is the entry free, but you will also receive a complimentary mince pie and some mulled wine too! 8th December: The Nutcracker
Fancy watching one of the most famous ballets this Christmas? Screened live from the Royal Opera house in London, you can watch The Nutcracker. Created by Peter Wright in 1984, you can see the ballet from the comfort of Cramphorn Theatre in Chelmsford. This magnificent production is really something to behold, with an incredible score by Tchaikovsky, festive stage designs and captivating dance routines. 19th December: A Christmas Carol
Whatever version you watch at Christmas, A Christmas Carol is a must to get you in the festive spirit. It was in fact the first public performance that Charles Dickens gave of his own work. He enacted it over 150 times throughout his life, which is incredible.
