All of them are a short drive from where we are based. There is something for everyone’s tastes so take a look below and see what takes your fancy.

Vita Bella

This is a beautiful Italian Restaurant that is situated in East Hanningfield close to Chelmsford, a mere 20-minute drive from Channels Lodge, and was established in 2012. Being relatively new it is stylish and cosy, offering up authentic Italian food made from fresh local produce. There are tonnes of rave reviews online from customers who have said things such as:

“The service was incredible, everyone was so friendly and welcoming. The food was magnificent, my husband had ribeye steak and said it was by far the best steak he had ever had…I can’t wait to go here again.”

“I never fail to be impressed with Vita Bella. The service and food are always the very best.”

So as you can see, the reviews speak for themselves. If you are a fan of pasta and pizza, then we suggest you check out Vita Bella as soon as you can! They open for dinner between the hours of 6.30pm – 10.00pm. To book a table visit their website here.

Channels Bar & Brasserie

Channels Bar & Brasserie Brasserie has recently been fully refurbished, to create a new destination bar & restaurant for Chelmsford. The new menus focus on British fusion, quality sourced ingredients, with plenty of gluten free and healthy options. Seasonal special boards in the Brasserie are regularly updated, so there is always something new to try. New in the Brasserie for Spring 2017 is the bottomless Brunch menu. It is definitely a hit with the public based on these reviews:

“We were here yesterday for the bottomless brunch. The eggs royale and bottomless prosecco was really very good, and great value at £20, the outside sitting area is really picturesque. Would highly recommend.”

“Had our second visit to this lovely place today, bought my parents for Sunday lunch to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary, we certainly picked the best place to celebrate, the service was fantastic and the food was delicious, couldn’t of asked for more really!”

The Channels Bar & Brasserie’s opening times are Monday-Friday 7:15am to 11.00pm and Saturday 8.00am to 11.00pm, with Sunday’s being open from 8.00am to 6.00pm. To book a table, please call 01245-440005.

Blue Strawberry Bistrot

Even the name sounds intriguing! Blue Strawberry Bistrot is a 12-minute drive from Channels Lodge. It is perfect for those who prefer something a little more traditional and British. For the last 20 years this restaurant has been the perfect choice for a relaxed dining experience that is one of the finest in Essex. Blue Strawberry Bistrot is like stepping back in time with antique books & ornaments, beams and open fires.

There are two dinner menus, one for Monday-Thursday and another for Friday-Saturday, and it all sounds delicious! But don’t take our word for it, see what people have been saying:

“Nice quaint restaurant with good reputation & hasn’t disappointed yet. Good quality food & service – great for a special location.”

“A lovely restaurant with wonderful service. You do need to book though. The food really is delicious, changes regularly and a visit there always feels like a real night out.”

The opening times for dinner Monday-Saturday are from 6.00pm until late, so if this seems like your cup of tea you better get booking before they’re full up! Visit their website for details of how to contact them here.

Little Channels Bistro

The Bistro at Little Channels is a family run restaurant serving good value British food. The Bistro has plenty of high chairs, children’s menu, and colouring and pencils to keep them entertained. Both bars & restaurants have ample free parking, free wifi and are situated just 10 minutes from Chelmsford City Centre in the beautiful countryside

“I took my children here for dinner, we had burgers and fish and chips and it was great. A great alternative to Harvester, or pizza hut with the kids.”

“I love this place, outstanding food and service. The staff work hard to ensure you enjoy your meal. A real treat and so much better than the chains can offer.”

The opening times from Monday to Friday 9.00am to 9pm, Saturdays opening at 8.00am to 9.00pm,and Sundays opening at 8.00am to 6.00pm. To book a table as soon as you can, you can call 01245-362210.

Everybody loves a good, hearty meal at a pub and The Hare at Roxwell claims to offer just that. If you decide to journey the 15-minute drive you will be greeted by a menu that has seasonal dishes that change throughout the year in a relaxed atmosphere. The pub is surrounded by picturesque scenery that attracts the local wildlife – you may even see a deer or two!

Unlike all the other restaurants featured in this list, there is no booking policy unless your party is bigger than five. So feel free to pop in whenever you like. Here is what their previous customers had to say:

“We eat in the Hare regularly and always get an excellent meal. Staff are always so helpful. They always have a special menu.”

“A good menu with plenty of choice without being overly expansive. Portions were good and the food was well prepared…Recommended for a really nice meal in traditional pub surroundings.”
